Sovereign was bred in 1935 by W.E. West of England and owned by Mrs. Lawrence Smith. He was recorded as a red brown. Sovereign obviously had a mixed ear carriage background and it would be interesting to determine which of his ancestors carried a drop ear. Sovereign had an inbreeding coefficient of only .3%, had one littermate and 7 full siblings, none of whom were champions. Of the 52 half siblings on his sire's side and 1 on his dam's side, none were champions. From the 8 breedings producing 12 get there were no champions of record.
