Bred by Mrs. Gay Blewitt in 1925 as a singleton puppy with no full siblings, Tobit had 2 half siblings on his sire's side and 3 on his dam's. He was a true drop ear and was one of the 5 founding sires in the breed. He produced the first champion bitch in England. He was the foundation of the Boxted line. Bred 16 times he produced a total of 40 offspring. He was bred to only one champion, his daughter Eng. Ch. Tinker Bell, producing one non-champion puppy. Tobit was bred 5 times to Neachley Toffee, who produced the largest litters by Tobit producing respectively, 4, 6, 3, 6 and 5 puppies per litter. He was bred to one other daughter, Teasel of Boxted, producing one non-champion puppy. Said to be a wonderful ratter, there is a certificate from a Master of Foxhounds the East Essex Hunt,
in 1932, that Tobit was ‘entered to badger and is game’. "... a wonderful ratter. In fact he had so many bites and battles that he finally went blind and deaf." Note the mixed ear carraige in this pedigree. He carried the black and tan gene and was the sire of the 2nd recorded drop ear Norwich, Eng. Ch. Tinker Bell. "Tobit and Tinkerbell were a great pair together when ratting and Tobit was a reliable dog to fox and not too hard."
