Bred by Mr. V.L. Page in 1955 and owned by Jeffrey Oldham of Woodlands Farm, Weeley Heath, Essex, Mr. Oldham said in an old publication, "Owing to pressure of business I am unable to place him at stud or to exhibit him as often as I would like.". As of that publication Ripple had earned 2 C.C.'s and 2 Res. C.C.'s. He had 2 littermates, one with the Waveney Valley prefix and 12 full siblings, all with the Waveney Valley prefix, none champions. Amazingly only 2 of the 170 half siblings on his sire's side earned their championship, but one of those went on to be a significant dam, Eng. Ch. Hunston Hedge Betty. None of the 4 half siblings on his dam's side earned their title. Ripple was bred only 4 times producing 12 get, none of which were champions. It was this breeder's conviction that his Norwich were successful as they were "country bred and sportingly matured". By day all of his terriers roamed the fields and woodlands of Ashmans Hall in order to "lead perfectly natural lives so essential to all breeding stock."These were proven field terriers who in the ring were noted for their harsh coats, gay temperaments, and the "physical conforrmation necessary for a good worker with the refinement necessary to a show winner.".
